Looking after your personal data

This article explains how TADS Theatre Group will comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and how it will affect you.

Legal responsibilities

We take data protection very seriously and recognise a number of responsibilities as follows:

  • to process any personal information in accordance with the eight principles of the GDPR.

  • to answer subject access requests received from individuals within 30 calendar days.


The eight principles of the Act

The GDPR gives individuals the right to know what information is held about them. It provides a framework to ensure that personal information is handled properly.

The GDPR works in two ways. Firstly, it states that any organisation that processes personal information must comply with eight principles, which make sure that personal information is:

  1. Fairly and lawfully processed

  2. Processed for limited purposes

  3. Adequate, relevant and not excessive

  4. Accurate and up to date

  5. Not kept for longer than is necessary

  6. Processed in line with your rights

  7. Held securely

  8. Not transferred to countries outside the EU without adequate protection

The second area covered by the Act provides individuals with important rights, including the right to find out what personal information is held on computer and paper records.


Your personal data

So how do we look after your personal data?

  1. We only collect the minimum amount of information required, in order to facilitate your membership with TADS, typically name, email address and home address.
  2. For audience members we will typically only collect your name and email address.
  3. TADS Theatre will sometimes use members' photo and name when producing programmes for example, but never in an excessive way.
  4. You will always have access to your personal record so you can check the accuracy of your data.
  5. We take appropriate security measures (for example using SSL certificates on our online database) to reduce any chance of your data being compromised.
  6. Access to your data is limited only to those who need it. For example some of your personal data is kept for archiving purposes, so that we (and you) can see what plays you've been involved in, but this information is minimised and is not publicly available.
